Literacy Best Practices

The development of skill and knowledge is not a one-and-done event, but an ongoing process that requires revisiting thematic content and skill-building tasks over time. This recursive approach enables students to deepen their understanding and build lasting confidence as they progress across grade levels and encounter varied perspectives. By offering robust, cross-disciplinary instruction, we cultivate introspective scholarship and support accelerated growth—allowing students to achieve more than a year’s progress within a single year.

Just as students move through increasingly complex material in a spiraling path, educators, too, must grow in their craft—making at least a year’s worth of progress annually. Significant professional growth occurs when we engage with implementation science and participate in professional learning communities grounded in neurodevelopmental principles. In this way, both students and educators thrive within a dynamic, spiral model of learning—developing the habits and mindset of lifelong scholars.
